Come a Little Bit Closer Lyrics by Billy Walker from the The Gun. Even the epic light drum and guitar instrumental build-up right before the bridge just makes you feel pumped to belt out the final chorus.Ĭage the Elephant has always stayed pretty consistent in my book and “Come a Little Closer” will no doubt be playing all over the radio faster than you can say the band’s name. Lyrics: Hello world, hear the song that were singin / Come on, get happy / A whole.

The best thing about this song is the fact that it gradually gets more powerful and passionate with each chorus. The country twang in Shultz’s voice has been replaced by haunting echoes throughout the track that really make it more grown up-sounding yet it still has a fun, psychedelic aspect to it that makes you literally feel like you should be looking through a kaleidoscope. Lead singer Matthew Shultz incorporates the perfect amount of antagonization in the questions he asks us in the chorus (“Do you understand the things that you would see here?” and “Do you understand the things that you’ve been dreaming?”) as well as moodiness when he repeatedly wails “Time flies by, they all sing along” in the bridge. While the instrumentation is a tad Beck-like with some very Foster the People-esque qualities in the vocal styling, “Come a Little Closer” is a big ball of epicness in the fact that it shows that they are evolving as a band. They’ve been riding high on the success from 2008’s “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” and 2010’s “Shake Me Down,” but this new track looks like it’ll be the start of a new chapter in this indie-alternative band’s sound journey.
